BISMARCK, ND – A two-run homer by
Emari Evans was not enough as a pair of one-run losses sunk the University of Mary softball team in a doubleheader (6-5, 7-6) to Bemidji State University.
UMary (9-33, 2-18 Northern Sun) recorded 17 hits over the two games, while BSU (13-32, 7-15 NSIC) had 18.
GAME 1 |BSU – 6, UMary - 5
The Beavers jumped out to a 1-0 in the first inning.
Mckenzie Reinhardt gave the Marauders a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning when she singled through the right side to bring home
Kelsey Mischel and
Jaraya Diaz.
A two-run single and home run in the top of the fourth inning gave BSU a 6-2 lead. UMary got a run back in the bottom of the fourth after
Hannah Chambers reached on an error to score
Katelyn Falk.
The Marauders would cut the lead to 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Francesca Villaneda doubled to center field, scoring Reinhardt.
Emily Schommer then singled to left field to score pinch runner
Janine Warne.
The Beavers would shut out UMary the next two innings to secure a 6-5 win.
Emari Evans and
Nicole Eckhardt pitched a combined 3.1 innings and allowed zero runs and no hits.

GAME 2 |BSU – 7, UMary - 6
Francesca Villaneda smacked a double to left center in the bottom of the first to score
Ariana Retuta and give UMary a 1-0 lead. BSU responded with one run in the second inning and two in the third to take a 3-1 lead.
The bottom of the third inning saw Villaneda drive in her second run as she singled down the left field line, scoring
Mckenzie Reinhardt.
Emily Schommer then smashed a triple to center field to bring home Villaneda.
Jaraya Diaz gave the Marauders a 4-3 lead when singled to left field, scoring Schommer.
BSU exploded for four runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 7-4 lead.
Emari Evans would make it a one-run game when she smoked a two-run homer to center field to bring home
Emma Kimberling.
UMary failed to score in the next three innings as BSU secured a 7-6 win.
Nicole Eckhardt pitched two innings of relief and surrendered one hit and no runs.
