BISMARCK, ND – Despite three Marauders recording multi-hit games, the University of Mary softball team dropped their home opener, losing 9-1, 9-2 in a doubleheader against Minnesota State University Moorhead.
UMary posted 13 hits and left eight runners on base over the two games.
GAME 1 |MSUM – 9, UMary - 1
The Dragons came out on fire, posting seven runs in the first three innings. The Marauders responded with a run in the bottom of the third inning after
Janelle Bergmann singled to the shortstop, scoring
Mckenzie Reinhardt.
MSUM closed the game out after adding two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to win 9-1 after five innings.
UMary had six hits and left four runners on base. MSUM recorded 13 hits and left eight runners on base.

GAME 2 |MSUM – 9, UMary - 2
The Dragon opened the top of the first inning with two runs. MSUM took a 5-0 lead with a three-run homer by Evey Evans in the third inning. The Dragons extended their lead to 9-0 after scoring four runs over the next three innings.
The Marauders showed their resiliency and continued to battle in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Francesca Villaneda smashed a double to left center, scoring
Sariah Perez and
Janelle Bergmann. UMary failed to score more runs in the sixth and seventh innings and fell 9-2 to MSUM.
The Marauders posted seven hits and left runners on base. The Dragons had ten hits and left nine runners on base.
