JAN PHYL VILLAGE, FL – Outstanding pitching performance by
Hannah Chambers and
Arria Johnson helped lead the University of Mary softball team to two victories over Mercyhurst University (7-1) and Thomas More University (5-4). UMary fell to Trevecca Nazarene University 6-0 in their first game of the day.
UMary – 7, Mercyhurst - 1
Hannah Chambers was outstanding for the Marauders as she pitched all seven innings, allowing just one unearned run and three hits while striking out two batters. Chambers is now 2-3 on the season.
UMary kicked off the scoring in the top of the first inning when
Keely Porter singled to right with the bases loaded, which allowed all three Marauders to score.
UMary added another run in the top of the second inning when
Katelyn Falk stole second and
Kelsey Mischel came home to score on a throwing error by the catcher.
The top of the fourth inning saw
Mckenzie Reinhardt make it 5-0 when singled to center, scoring Mischel. Falk then came around to score when
Jenel Mallari reached on a fielder's choice.
Porter drove in her third run of the game when she singled to second base to bring home
Emily Schommer.
MU scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Chambers responded by striking out the last batter to end the game 7-1.

It was back-and-forth game that was capped off by clutch hitting by the Marauders and clutch pitching by
Arria Johnson. Johnson recorded a team-high 4
th win on the year as she pitched three scoreless innings of relief. The freshman allowed only three hits and no walks as she struck out two hitters.
Emma Kimberling kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the second inning by doubling to center to score
Janelle Bergmann. TMU tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third.
Emily Schommer put UMary back on top when she smashed a solo home run to right-center in the bottom of the third. The Saints took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning and added another run in the fifth.
Bergmann tied the game up at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning when she singled to right field, scoring
Sariah Perez and
Kelsey Mischel. Bergmann came around to score when Kimberling hit a sac fly to left field.
With UMary holding on to a one-run lead, TMU had a base runner on second base with no one out. Johnson responded by striking the next batter out and getting the next two batters to pop up and ground out to short.

TNU hit three home runs in the first four innings to take a 4-0 lead. The Trojans picked up two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to win 6-0.
UMary recorded four hits and two walks.
Emari Evans pitched 3 and 2/3 innings of relief and allowed two runs while striking out two Trojans.
