WICHITA, KS – Solid performances by
Mckenzie Reinhardt and
Francesca Villaneda were not enough as the University of Mary softball team (7-13 overall) fell 11-4 and 7-3 in their doubleheader against Newman University (10-14 overall).
Reinhardt and Villaneda reached base four times over the two games. Reinhardt recorded three hits and one walk, while Villaneda posted four hits.
Newman – 11, UMary - 4
After a clean first inning by the Marauders, the Jets opened the scoring in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead. NU added four more runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.
UMary responded with three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Francesca Villaneda came around to score after
Sariah Perez reached on an error.
Ariana Retuta followed up by driving in
Emily Schommer after she grounded out to the pitcher.
Katelyn Falk made it a 5-3 ball game when singled to bring home Perez.
The Jets took a commanding 11-3 lead after scoring six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Marauders got a run back after Villaneda singled to center to score
Mckenzie Reinhardt. UMary was unable to add on any more runs and fell 11-4 to NU.

Newman – 7, UMary - 3
The Marauders competed well in game two, but a rough sixth inning would see UMary fall 7-3. The Jets put up two runs in the bottom of the first inning to open the scoring.
The top of the fourth inning saw clutch two-out hits score the Marauders three runs to take a 3-2 lead.
Ariane Sims picked up her first career RBI in her collegiate debut after she singled to right to score
Ariana Retuta.
Emma Kimberling tied the game up when she hit a single to center, scoring
Katelyn Falk. A single to right field by
Mckenzie Reinhardt brought home Sims to give UMary the lead.
NU tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth. The sixth inning saw the Jets explode for four runs to take a 7-3 lead and the win.
Hannah Chambers pitched her fourth complete game of the season, allowing four earned runs over six innings.
