SIOUX CENTER, IA – Kicking off their Northern Sun schedule, the University of Mary softball team fell in a doubleheader 8-0, 6-2 to the University of Sioux Falls. The Marauders recorded eight hits and one walk over the two games.
GAME 1 |USF – 8, UMary - 0
USF (11-14, 2-2 NSIC) opened the scoring in the first inning and added on seven more runs over the next four to secure an 8-0 win after five. UMary (7-17, 0-2 NSIC) recorded three hits, while the Cougars had 13.

The Marauders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning after
Emily Schommer hit a single to center field to score

USF responded with a run in the bottom of the first inning. A two-run homer in the third and a solo shot in the fifth gave the Cougars a 4-2 lead. USF added two more runs in the sixth inning and picked up the 6-2 victory.
Whitney Carnes pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing no hits and two walks. UMary had five hits over the contest, while the Cougars recorded ten.

UMary hosts Minnesota State University, Mankato and Southwest Minnesota State University in a pair of doubleheaders this weekend. The Marauders take on the Mavericks on Friday, March 29, at noon and 2 pm. UMary then challenges SMSU on Saturday, March 20, at noon and 2 pm.
