JAMESTOWN, ND – The University of Mary softball team struggled to bring home runners in their doubleheader against Minnesota State University, Mankato, losing 9-0 and 10-2.
UMary (7-19, 0-4 Northern Sun) recorded 17 hits over the two games but left 18 runners on base.
GAME 1 |MSU – 9, UMary - 0
MSU (24-8, 4-2 NSIC) exploded for eight runs in the top of the second inning. The Mavericks added one more run in the third to take a 9-0 lead. The Marauders had seven hits and one walk but failed to score any runs as MSU won 9-0.
Nicole Eckhardt came on in relief in the bottom of the second inning and pitched 3.2 innings, striking out a season-high five batters.

GAME 2 |MSU – 10, UMary - 2
The Mavericks scored four runs in the bottom of the second and added another run in the third to take a 5-0 lead.
UMary responded with a two-run third inning to cut MSU's lead to 5-2.
Mckenzie Reinhardt led off the inning with a double to left field. Two batters later,
Janelle Bergmann hit a double to left center, scoring Reinhardt.
Francesca Villaneda brought home Bergmann with a single to center.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Marauders had the bases loaded with one out. Back-to-back fielders' choices saw MSU get out of a jam and maintain a 5-2 lead. The Mavericks added five runs over the next three innings to earn a 10-2 win.
The Marauders recorded ten hits and two walks, while MSU had 13 hits and three walks.
