Marauders walk off Golden Bears to open 4-game NSIC series

BRANDON, SD – In a game featuring 31 runs, 30 hits, 57 baserunners and 19 extra base hits, the University of Mary baseball team was the last team standing in a 16-15 walk-off win over Concordia-St. Paul. After watching an 8-run lead dissipate, the Marauders scored the final two runs of the game as a Dylan Edmunds ground ball to second scored Noah Hull with the tying run with Michael Polson taking advantage of an errant throw to cross home plate with the winning run.

Led by two home runs by Carter Beck and three extra base hits by Hull, the Marauders pounded out four home runs, seven doubles and a triple among their 14 hits.

The Marauders (7-7 overall, 3-2 Northern Sun) opened the scoring with three runs in first as Beck hit a 2-run home run and Hull followed with a solo shot. UMary added five more runs in the fifth, keyed by a 2-run Kalem Haney double and a Josh Walker 2-run blast.

CSP (11-3, 3-2 NSIC) closed within 8-7 after scoring seven times in the fifth with a Justin McGuigan grand slam the key blow. The Golden Bears finally pulled even at 10-10 in the 6th before the Marauders responded with four runs. A solo shot by Beck, a 2-run triple by Krece Papierski followed by a wild pitch to score the Marauders catcher pushed the UMary lead to 14-10 through six innings.

The Golden Bears kept pushing and took a 15-14 lead in the seventh to set up the Marauders ninth inning rally.

Down to their final at bats and down a run, Hull led off the bottom of the ninth with an opposite field single through the left side of the infield. Polson followed with an opposite field single to right before a walk to Daniel Martin loaded the bases. After a strikeout, Edmands hit a soft roller to the right side to score Hull with the tying run. An errant throw in an attempt to get Edmands at first rolled towards the backstop and allowed Polson to race home with the winning run and touch off a wild celebration by the Marauders.

All nine Marauders in the starting lineup posted at least one hit and one run scored and seven knocked in a run:
  • Kalem Haney finished 3-for-3 with a 2B, scored a run and drove in two
  • Josh Walker was 2-for-5 with a double, a HR, two runs scored and two RBIs
