Zyon Smith was one of three Marauders who reached double figures in scoring in a 75-61 UMary loss at St. Cloud State University.
Smith had a team-high 16 points for the Marauders. The guard splashed a pair of treys and made 6-of-11 shots from the floor. Smith also had a pair of rebounds.
Gerald Gittens scored 13 points – all in the second half - and also had a pair of treys. He grabbed six rebounds and had three assists.
Xavier Lewis missed just one shot on his way to 12 points, making 6-of-7 field goals.
Ty Rogers just missed a double double with nine rebounds and nine points.
Lucas Morgan led the Huskies with 13 points and six rebounds.
UMary (44.2%) outshot SCSU (43.4%) but the Huskies hit three more treys (8 to 5) than the Marauders . SCSU also went 21-of-24 at the free throw line to 10-of-14 for the visitors. Both teams had 31 rebounds. While the Marauders held a 32-26 edge in points in the paint, the Huskies held a 20-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
The Huskies grabbed the lead in the first half and never gave it back. The Marauders used a 13-5 run to take a 13-9 lead before the Huskies surged ahead on an 18-0 run and went into intermission with a 34-21 advantage. The Marauders found a scoring touch in the second half, posting 40 points. Several times the Marauders closed within six, the last time on a Gittens trey to close within 42-36, but couldn't close the gap further.
The Marauders return home to host #9 MSU Moorhead at 5:30 pm on Saturday, February 10, at the McDowell Activity Center.
