Lewis tops Marauders attack in loss to #9 Dragons

BISMARCK, ND – Hosting a nationally ranked team for the second straight Saturday and the third time this season, University of Mary men's basketball sophomore Xavier Lewis led a trio of Marauders in double figures for points in an 83-64 loss to #9 MSU Moorhead.

Lewis came off the bench to score 13 points for UMary (6-18, 1-17 Northern Sun). The forward powered his way to the basket to make 6-of-9 shots from the floor and converted his lone free throw. He also had three rebounds and three assists in the game.

Gunner Swanson chipped in 12 points in a reserve role, also adding three boards and two assists.

Marquel Saleek provided more scoring punch from the Marauders bench. The sophomore guard was an efficient 3-for-4 from the floor and hit his only trey attempt and both free throws. Saleek had five boards, four assists and two steals.

The team leader in double doubles with three, Ty Rogers just missed another. The sophomore forward had 10 points and nine rebounds plus a pair of steals.

After a slow first half shooting the ball, the Marauders connected for 48% shooting in the second half and 40% for the game. The Dragons made 55% of their shots in the contest.

Jacob Jennissen led the Dragons (21-3, 15-3 NSIC) with 15 points, one of five MSUM players in double digits. Dane Zimmer had a double double with ten points and ten rebounds.

The Marauders continue their home stand when Concordia-St. Paul visits the McDowell Activity Center on Friday, February 16. Game time is 7:30 pm.
