BISMARCK, ND – On a night when baskets were hard to find for the University of Mary
Gerald Gittens again provided the primary scoring for the Marauders. The junior guard led UMary with 17 points in the Marauders 87-53 loss to #19 Minot State University.
Against the Beavers (18-4 overall, 13-3 NSIC) Gittens hit a pair of treys, went 7-of-8 at the line and added three rebounds. He has paced the Marauders in scoring the last six games, posting at least 15 points in each contest. The native of Brooklyn, NY, is averaging over 15 points per game in his first season at UMary (6-16, 1-15 NSIC).
Alex Mattes also added a pair of 3s for UMary and finished with 10 points.
Gunner Swanson connected twice from behind the arc and chipped in three assists, two blocks and two steals.
Rich Ashu hauled down nine rebounds and made two blocks.
Ben Bohl led the Beavers with 19 points, one of six Minot State players with eight or more points.
The Beavers had a strong game offensively, making 57% of their shots overall and 47% from behind the arc. UMary was 6-for-17 from deep and made 32% of their shots overall.
One of the top teams in the NSIC in blocks, the Marauders had a 5-4 edge in blocks and 8-6 in steals.
The Marauders have another split weekend upcoming. On Thursday, February 8, UMary visits St. Cloud State University. The Marauders are back home Saturday, January 10, to host the national-ranked MSU Moorhead Dragons. Tip off is slated for 5:30 pm at the McDowell Activity Center.
