CLERMONT, FL – An offensive explosion in the fourth inning helped lead the University of Mary softball team to a 17-2 win over Montana State – Billings. The Marauders fell 9-0 in their opening game of the day against the University of Findlay.
UMary recorded a season-high 13 hits and eight walks against the Yellowjackets.

Janelle Bergmann kicked things off in style in the top of the first inning, smashing a double to left center to bring home
Jenel Mallari. MSU Billings responded with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. UMary tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third inning when
Kelsey Mischel hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring
Emily Schommer.
The top of the fourth inning saw the Marauders score a whopping 13 runs. The highlights of the inning included a two-run double by
Ariana Retuta down the right-field line. An RBI triple by Mallari that brought home Schommer. A two-run single by
Emma Kimberling scored
Mckenzie Reinhardt and
Francesca Villaneda. Mallari recorded another hit in the inning when she singled to right field, scoring Kimberling and Retuta. Mischel concluded the scoring in the fourth with an RBI single to left field.
Reinhardt increased the score to 16-2 in the fifth inning after hitting a sac fly to left field to score Bergmann. Kimberling drove in the final run, hitting a double to center field to bring in Retuta. UMary had five Marauders record multiple hits against the Yellowjackets.
Hannah Chambers recorded the final three outs in the fifth inning to secure her first win of the season. Chambers pitched all five innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out one batter.

The bats struggled for the Marauders in their matchup against the Oilers. UMary recorded two hits against UF, including
Kelsey Mischel's first hit as a Marauder.
UF took a 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. The Oilers then exploded for seven runs in the second inning to take an 8-0 lead. UF added one more run in the third, securing the Oilers a 9-0 win.

UMary heads to Winter Haven, FL, to challenge MSU Billings at 3 pm on Saturday, March 2. The Marauders then compete against West Virginia Wesleyan College at 5:15 pm.
