ELKHORN, NE – Scoring the last 11 runs of the game, the University of Mary opened the 2024 Northern Sun baseball schedule in spectacular fashion, downing Minnesota State University Mankato 17-7. The Marauders outhit the Mavericks 19-7 as UMary scored ten runs in the last two innings.
 
A back and forth ballgame from the start, the Marauders opened with five run in the top of the first inning. 
Michael Polson delivered the big blow with a 2-run home run. Minnesota State got right back in the game with three runs in the bottom of the first. Another three runs in the third gave the Mavericks a 6-5 lead. After both teams scored in the fourth, the Marauders tied the game 7-7 in the fifth on an RBI single by 
Josh Walker to score Polson.
 
Alec Danen came on to pitch the bottom of the fifth and took control of the game. The junior righty from Sheboygan, WI, shut down the Mavericks, allowing one hit and no runs in five innings to earn the win. Danen struck out two and walked one.
 
The Marauders also experienced an offensive lull until the eighth inning. 
Krece Papierski broke the tie with a solo home run. 
Carter Beck soon followed with a run-scoring triple, 
Dylan Edmands singled home a run, Polson hit a 2-run single, 
Daniel Martin hit a run-scoring double and 
Kyle Jameson capped the rally with another run-scoring double for the 6
th run of the inning.
 
Another four runs in the 9
th inning, including three run-scoring singles and a fielder's choice to score the final run, sealed the win.
