Haney continues hot start for Marauders in loss to Bearcats

JOPLIN, MO – Continuing his blazing start to the season, Kalem Haney pounded out four hits for the University of Mary baseball team against Northwest Missouri State University, just one day after opening the season with two hits against Illinois-Springfield. Overall the Marauders and Bearcats both had 13 hits but UMary couldn't match the Northwest run production in a 13-5 loss on day two of the MSSU Lion Classic, hosted by Missouri Southern.

Haney finished 4-for-5 with a walk and three runs scored as the Marauders leadoff hitter. Among the sophomore second baseman's hits was a triple and he also stole a base. In two games Haney is 6-for-10 with two triples, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Several other Marauders had strong days at the plate. Josh Walker was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Noah Hull was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Daniel Martin was 3-for-5 with one RBI.

Jacob Selock had four RBIs and Trey Morris drove in three runs to pace the Bearcats.

UMary fell down early as Northwest scored 11 runs in the first two innings. Ryan Chamberlain came on in relief in the second inning and quelled the Bearcats attack. In 6.1 innings Chamberlain allowed just one run on five hits and struck out three.

The Marauders wrap up the MSSU Lion Classic against Lewis University at 1 pm on Sunday, February 18.
