EDMOND, OK – The University of Mary wrapped up a whirlwind five games in nine days with an 86-71 loss to Northeastern State University in a neutral site game.
Jeremiah Jones again led the Marauders offensive effort, closing out the Central Region Challenge with 18 points against the Riverhawks.
Jones, who scored 19 against tournament host Central Oklahoma in the opening game on Friday, was incredibly efficient. The sophomore guard, who missed last season due to injury, hit 8-of-12 shots from the floor, including a 7-for-8 mark inside the arc. Jones also added a team-leading seven rebounds and two steals.
Ty Rogers added 14 points and was fouled by the Riverhawks six times. The sophomore forward was 4-for-6 from the field and made 5-of-9 free throws. He also had four boards.
Kevin McGaskey hit a pair of treys and scored 10 points to give UMary a trio of double-digit scorers.
Ten Marauders total scored in the game, including eight points off the bench for
Tamarrein Henderson.
In a fast-paced first half, the Riverhawks outscored the Marauders 41-36. Down as many as 11, a pair of jones layups sandwiched around a Henderson fast break basket closed the gap to five at intermission.
The Marauders closed the gap to 43-40 on a Jones basket off a steal by
Alex Mattes but the Riverhawks followed with a 14-5 run to build a double digit lead it maintained the rest of the meeting between teams from the Northern Sun and the MIAA.
UMary shot 50% in the first half but connected on just 31% in the second half as NSU pulled away. Northeastern State just got hotter as the game went on, making 50% of its shots in the first half and 54% in the second.
Trey Phipps led NSU with 29 points. Ethan Blackmon added 24 points and 12 rebounds.
UMary next makes its home debut when the Marauders host future Northern Sun member University of Jamestown on Thursday, November 14. Tipoff is 8 pm at the McDowell Activity Center. Tickets are available at
