TAMPA, FL – A tremendous shooting performance by the University of Mary women's basketball team (2-2, 0-1 NSIC) leads the Marauders to a 71-62 victory over Saint Leo University (4-1).
UMary shot 14-of-28 (50%) from behind the arc, the most three-pointers made on the season for the Marauders. In contrast, SLU went 4-of-12 from three.
Bergan Kinnebrew led all scorers with 21 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field while also going 2-of-3 from three and 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
Chloe Pfau recorded a career-high 18 points coming off the bench as she shot 5-of-11 from behind the arc.
Ryleigh Wacha posted 14 points and seven rebounds, shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from three.
Addison Rozell had eight points and five rebounds.
Moriku Hakim provided 11 rebounds and three blocks off the bench.
UMary held a 14-12 lead after the first quarter. Both teams' offenses got hot in the second quarter, but neither team was able to gain an advantage as the score was tied 37-37.
The Marauders defense came up big in the third quarter as they held the Lion to just 4-of-18 shooting to take a 53-47 lead going into the final quarter. Big shots by Pfau and Kinnebrew late in the fourth quarter helped secure a UMary victory 71-62.
UMary shot 36.4 percent from the field, while SLU had a 35.8 shooting percentage from the field. The Marauders went 9-of-14 from the free throw line, while the Lions shot 20-of-26 from the charity stripe. UMary dominated the glass, outrebounding SLU 42-29.
The Marauders stay in Tampa, FL, to compete against the University of Tamp on Saturday, November 30, at 3 pm.
