Lindsborg, KS – A late fourth quarter comeback fell short for the University of Mary women's basketball team (1-2, 0-1 NSIC) as the Marauders lost 73-62 to Northeastern State University (3-3).
Emily Jaenke led UMary in scoring off the bench with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field and 3-of-7 shooting from three.
Bergan Kinnebrew had 11 points and four rebounds. Foul trouble would plague Kinnebrew as the Bismarck, ND, native fouled out early in the fourth quarter.
Eden Fridley scored a season-best 11 points.
Ava Interrante put up 10 points and six rebounds.
The Marauders took an early 16-14 lead in the first quarter. UMary held an 11-point lead with 3:34 to go to go in the second quarter but an 13-2 run by NSU to close out the quarter would see the game tied at 35-35 going into halftime.
The RiverHawks took control in the third quarter, holding the Marauders to 3-of-11 shooting to take a 56-48 lead going into the fourth quarter. UMary rallied early in the fourth quarter, taking a 62-61 lead with 3:11 remaining. NSU responded by going on a 12-0 run to close out the game and secured a 73-62 victory for the RiverHawks.
UMary shot 34.0 percent from the field while going 6-of-24 from behind the arc. NSU had a 35.7 shooting percentage from the field, going 5-of-21 from three.
The Marauders shot 20-of-26 from the charity stripe, while the RiverHawks shot 28-of-41 from the free-throw line. UMary won the rebounding battle 37-25 over NSU.
The Marauders head to Tampa, FL, to take on Saint Leo University on Friday, November 29, at 4 pm. UMary then challenges the University of Tampa on Saturday, November 30, at 3 pm.
