ST. PAUL, MN – The six-game unbeaten string for the University of Mary women's soccer team ended on a free kick in a 1-0 loss at Concordia-St. Paul, the fourth straight road game for the Marauders. UMary now returns home to play the final three games of the regular season on the Marauders home field at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
The Marauders posted four wins and two ties in their last six games, including a win and two draws to start UMary's current four-game road trip.
UMary is 8-3-3 overall and 6-2-3 in Northern Sun action. The Marauders slipped to 5
th in the NSIC standings with 21 points, just one point out of fourth place and two out of third. Concordia-St. Paul is 9-3-3 overall and 7-3-1 for 22 points in the NSIC, edging past UMary for fourth in the standings.
Neither team was able to score in the opening half as defense dominated. Both sides managed to fire just one shot on frame.
Defenses continued to stifle both attacks with only four shots credited in the second half, all by the Golden Bears.
Concordia-St. Paul broke onto the scoreboard in the 74
th minute of play. Granted a free kick 30 yards out near the left sideline, Clare Snapko drilled a shot that settled into the net just under the crossbar and barely over the outstretched hands of a leaping Marauders goalkeeper
Molly Fischer.
Fischer finished the game with four saves for UMary.
Olivia Gardner had two of the Marauders three shots in the game, including the lone shot on frame.
CSP held the advantage in shots (9-3), shots on frame (5-1) and corner kicks (8-4).
The Marauders open their final regular season home stand of the season when UMary hosts Wayne State College at 1 pm on Friday, November 1. It is the first of three home games in seven days.
