BISMARCK, ND – An impressive performance by the University of Mary volleyball team (3-14, 1-8 Northern Sun) saw the Marauders pick up their first conference win of the season, defeating in-state rivals Minot State University (1-15, 0-9 NSIC) in three sets (25-19, 25-22, 25-22).
Freshman
Holli Klettheimer recorded a season-best 11 kills on a spectacular .429 attack percentage.
Kaia Sueker posted 20 digs over the three sets, averaging 6.6 digs per set.
The Marauders jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first set and never surrendered the lead. A
Charli Blackman serving ace clinched the set 25-19. Blackman recorded four kills and two aces in the first set.
The Beavers responded by getting a 7-0 lead in the second set. UMary showed grit and came back to tie the set at 22-22. The Marauders went on a 3-0 lead to win the set after
Reyna Isenbart posted two kills and
Maddie Cooper clinched it with a serving ace.
The Marauders continued their momentum in the third set as an attacking error by MSU clinched the match for UMary in a 25-22 set victory.
UMary had 41 kills on a .188 attack percentage, while MSU recorded 33 kills on a .136 hitting percentage.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Holli Klettheimer led the team with 11 kills while also grabbing three blocks.
Maddy Freed dished out 36 assists and recorded nine digs.
Kaia Sueker led all competitors with 20 digs.
Charli Blackman had ten kills, five digs and two aces.
Reyna Isenbart recorded nine kills and three blocks.
Maddie Cooper posted five kills, five blocks and two aces.
Gabby Caskey had six kills and four blocks.
