MARSHALL, MN – Strong performances by
Gabby Caskey and
Holli Klettheimer were not enough for the University of Mary volleyball team (2-13, 0-7 Northern Sun) as the Marauders fell in three sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-20) to #7 Southwest Minnesota State University (16-1, 7-1 NSIC).
Caskey and Klettheimer both posted nine kills against the stout Mustangs defense. Klettheimer posted a .286 hitting percentage, while Caskey had a .194 attack percentage.
SMSU jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first set and never looked back, winning 25-17. The Mustangs would continue their momentum in the second set, taking it down 25-14.
The Marauders competed well in the third set, trailing only 22-19 late. SMSU won three of the next four points to win the set and the match.
UMary had a strong day converting kills, posting a team-hitting percentage of .211. The Mustangs high-powered attack proved to be difficult for the Marauders to stop, as SMSU posted an impressive .396 hitting percentage.

Maddie Cooper recorded eight kills on a .412 hitting percentage.
Kaia Sueker had a team-best 15 digs.
Maddy Freed dished out 29 assists.
