CEDAR FALLS, IA - A historic day for Max Bruss and a clutch victory by Luke Tweeton lifted the #15 University of Mary wrestling team to a 2-1 record on the opening day of the 2024 NWCA Division II National Duals.

Bruss is now the all-time leader in wins for UMary in the NCAA era with 106 wins. The senior from De Pere, WI, surpassed former teammate Tate Barnhardt (103 wins) after he defeated number one-ranked James Penfold of Lake Erie College by a 6-0 decision. Ranked #5 at 174, the All-American went 3-0 on the day.

Tweeton, ranked #7 at 285, also went 3-0 on the day.

The Marauders kicked off the duals by defeating #5 and 4^th seeded Lake Erie College in epic comeback fashion. UMary trailed 17-5 before four straight victories earned the Marauders 16 straight points to rally back and win 21-17.

The Marauders were defeated 26-9 in their next matchup to #6 St. Cloud State University. UMary came back to defeat #25 Glenville State University 25-13 by once again winning their last four matches in dominant fashion.

The Marauders take on #10 McKendree University on Saturday, January 6, at 9 am, with a chance to finish 5^th in the NWCA National Duals.

#7 Reece Barnhardt (133) got the Marauders on the board by a 17-1 tech fall over #11 Ryan Wehner.

The Marauders trailed 17-5 before #5 Max Bruss (174) got UMary back on track. Bruss earned his school-record 104^th career win as he shut out #1 James Penfold by a 6-0 decision.

#9 Wyatt Lidberg (184) continued the momentum in dominant fashion over Paul Scaramuzzino, winning via a 16-3 major decision.

#8 Matt Kaylor (197) gave the Marauders an 18-17 lead after Kaylor pinned Brylan Clouse at the 3:42 mark.

#7 Luke Tweeton (285) earned UMary the victory after he beat Dylan Norris 4-1 in a sudden victory.

Chase Milligan (125) lost an exciting 11-6 decision to Anthony Sagaris.

Braydon Huber (157) fell in a close contest to #3 Jack Haskin by a 4-2 decision.

Following their victory over Lake Erie, the Marauders would come up short to Northern Sun conference foe St. Cloud State University 26-9. Barnhardt, Bruss and Tweeton would pick up victories for the Marauders against the Huskies.

#7 Reece Barnhardt (133) picked up the Marauders first win as the All-American defeated Sam Spencer by a 5-0 decision.

#5 Max Bruss (174) continues his great day by winning a close 5-4 decision over Bryce Dagel.

#7 Luke Tweeton (285) won the final match of the dual over Donnie Hidden by a 9-2 decision.

Jaden Verhagen (125) lost an 8-5 decision to Conor Knopick

Braydon Huber (157) fell to #1 Nick Novak in a close 3-0 decision.

Sam Bruss (165) came up short against #7 Anthony Herrera via a 9-5 decision.

Trailing 13-6 with four matches to go, UMary rattled off three straight tech falls by Bruss, Lidberg and Kaylor to earn the 25-13 victory over Glenville State University.

Jaden Verhagen (125) started the dual off with an impressive 10-2 major decision victory over Hunter Ross.

Kaden Renner (149) earned his first victory of the day over Ethan Hardy by a 9-4 decision.

#5 Max Bruss (174) showcased why he is an All-American as he won via a 15-0 tech fall over Drake De La Cruz.

#9 Wyatt Lidberg (184) kept the momentum going by earning himself a 21-5 tech fall over Isaiha Casto.

For the third straight match, a Marauder would win via technical fall as #8 Matt Kaylor (197) defeated Nicholas Johnson by a 29-10 tech fall.

#7 Luke Tweeton finished off the night by defeating Gavin Shamblin by a 4-2 decision.
