MARSHALL, MN – Ty Rogers provided offensive punch off the bench for the University of Mary men's basketball team and Gerald Gittens continued to produce points for the Marauders in an 83-51 loss on the road at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Rogers scored 15 points for UMary. The sophomore forward proved tough to stop, making 5-of-7 shots from the floor and hitting 4-of-7 free throws. Rogers also added three rebounds.
Gittens had a tremendous line on the night, posting 16 points and adding five assists, four rebounds and three steals. The junior guard also hit three treys in six attempts.
Alex Mattes, making his fourth straight start, also had a strong night behind the arc as the freshman drained three treys.
The Mustangs (11-8 overall, 8-5 NSIC) dominated the boards with a 48-20 edge in rebounds, leading to a 14-5 edge in second chance points. SMSU shot 52% from the floor to 32% for UMary (6-13, 1-12).
Aeron Stevens led the Mustangs with 26 points and 10 rebounds in a game SMSU scored first and never trailed.
The Marauders close out the weekend with a visit to the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday, January 27. Game time is 5:30 pm.
