Mandan, ND – Playing at home for the first time in seven weeks, it took the #10 University of Mary hockey team just a single period to get reacclimated to their home ice as the Marauders struck for six goals in the second period to overwhelm #16 Illinois State University 7-1.
Seth Cushing, UMary's all-time leading goal scorer, found the net twice in the win and added an assist.
Michael Heitkamp had a 4-point night with a goal and three assists, with the goal and two of the assists coming on power plays, Derek Dropik had a 3-point night with a goal and two assists.
The Marauders improve to 18-8-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOW-SOL) overall and 11-1-0-0-1 in MCH play. UMary leads the MCH with 40 points. Illinois State is 5
th in the MCH standings with 24 points and a record of 5-7-0-1-0 in league play and 17-10-1-0 overall.
Cushing opened the scoring with a short-handed goal at 13:23 of the first period. The Redbirds tied the game with 36 seconds left in the opening period on a power play goal.
The Marauders specialty units dominated the second period. Taking advantage of four Redbirds penalties, including a 5-minute major, five of the six UMary goals were scored on the power play, including three goals when Parker Terch was sent to the penalty box for boarding.

Andrew Huber and Dropik all scored in the second, with Cushing's goal the only one not scored with a man advantage.
The goal by Freeman gives him 100 career points.
UMary finished the game 5-for-7 on the power play while ISU was 1-for-7. The Marauders held a 39-30 edge in shots.
Kyle Hayden finished with 29 saves for UMary.
The Marauders and the Redbirds wrap up their weekend series at 2 pm on Sunday, January 21, at 2 pm at the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac rink.
