GREENSBORO, NC – The University of Mary baseball team once again was honored for their academic success as the Marauders received the 2022-23 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award. This is the third straight season UMary earned ABCA team academic recognition and the sixth time in the award's eight-season history.
 
Led by head coach Tanner Spencer, the UMary baseball team also received several individual academic honors this season. Cal James became just the second Marauders baseball College Sports Communicators (CSC) /CoSIDA Academic All-America honors when he received third team recognition. Thirteen Marauders received Northern Sun 2023 Spring All-Academic Team honors, including eight on the team of excellence. James, Derek Schoen and Mark Sommer claimed CAC Academic All-District honors. 2022-23 NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction honorees include James, Schoen, Joseph Sinclair and Brett Thompson.
 
Presented by Sports Attack, the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a team grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. More than 450 collegiate programs and over 300 high school programs were recognized for the 2022-23 season.
 
The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
