SMITHVILLE, MO – A big weekend by
Carrie Carmichael led the University of Mary to a program-best finish at the 2023 Northern Sun Women's Golf Championships. Carmichael finished the 3-day event 7
th overall in the individual standings as the Marauders placed seventh in the team standings, both marks all-time records for UMary.
Carmichael finished 18 over par after playing three rounds at the on the Paradise Point – Outlaw par 72 course that covers 5,930 rounds. The freshman from Williston, ND, shot a 75 to open play on Friday. She followed with a 77 for the middle round before firing an 82 on championship Sunday, finishing the tournament with a combined score of 234. Her 7
th place finish is the best UMary finish for a Marauders golfer at the NSIC championships.
The Marauders finished seventh in the team standings, jumping three places in the NSIC standings after placing 10
th the previous two seasons. UMary opened with a first round score of 328 with subsequent rounds of 338 and 360. The Marauders finished +162 over par with a 3-round total score of 1,026.
"I'm proud of the whole team , both those here who competed this week and those back in Bismarck as all of them pushed each other this year," said Marauders head women's golf coach
Marion Hernandez. " "This was a good finish for us as we were able to beat our previous 10th place finish from each of the last two years. We held in there and built great momentum for next year."
Emily St. Aubin placed 29
th at +38 (82-83-89—254) in a field of 64 golfers playing for 13 teams.
A consistent performance by
Abby Thelen (89-88-89—266) allowed her to finish 40
th overall at +50.
Anna Graveline (82-96-100—278) and
Grace Stroh (89-90-100-279) rounded out the scoring for the Marauders and finished within a stroke of each other.
Augustana won the team title with a score of 932. Isabella Dory of Concordia-St. Paul claimed the individual title with a score of 222.
