MANKATO, MN - Dual pitching efforts by
Nicole Eckhardt and
Emari Evans limited the Golden Bears in a close, low-scoring game one, but the UMary Softball team couldn't gather rhythm at the plate in 2-0 and 8-0 losses to Concordia - St. Paul on Saturday.
GAME ONE
The pitching took center stage in the first of two as UMary (7-38, 2-24 NSIC) fell short to Concordia - St. Paul (26-25, 12-14 NSIC) 2-0.
Nicole Eckhardt started the first three innings of the game, giving up only one hit while striking out two and walking only two.
Emari Evans finished the last three, with both CSP runs in the fourth inning going unearned.
Bryanna Olson dominated in the win, striking out 11 Marauders hitters and allowing only three hits in the shutout.
Janelle Bergmann was a bright spot offensively, picking up two hits, doubling, and stealing a base.
Brooke De Jonge had the Marauders third hit of the game.
GAME TWO
A fast start with run support in every inning but the fourth accelerated CSP to an 8-0 win in five innings over UMary.
Clara Heislen opened the scoring with a solo blast to lead off the bottom of the first on route to a 3-0 early lead. Heilsen finished 2-3 with 2 RBIs.
Taylor Griffin later homered in the fifth inning, finishing along with Heislen as the lone players with multiple hits and multiple RBIs in the game.
The Golden Bears enjoyed another shutout pitching performance from Kristi Pilz, who finished with four strikeouts, two walks, and three hits given up.
Janelle Bergmann went 1-2 to finish with 3 total hits on the day.
Brooke De Jonge also singled for a hit in each game of the doubleheader.
Emari Evans also singled in her lone at-bat of the game.
UP NEXT
UMary Softball will play its final doubleheader of the season Sunday against Minnesota State University (29-17, 18-10 NSIC). The Marauders and Mavericks will take the MSU Sports Dome at 11 am and 1 pm.
