ST. CLOUD, MN – Despite runners in scoring position on a regular basis throughout the game, the University of Mary was unable to push a run across in a 5-0 loss to St. Cloud State University in the series finale between the Marauders and the Huskies.
The Marauders stranded a dozen runners on base in the 9-inning Northern Sun game. Four times, including each of the first three innings, UMary left two runners on base. The fifth inning was the only time the Huskies retired the Marauders in order.
Four times the Marauders leadoff hitter reached base, including in each of the last three innings.
The Huskies, who outhit the Marauders 7-6, stranded just six baserunners in the contest.
Six Marauders had hits in the game. Krese Papierski,
Michael Polson and
Kalem Haney also had a walk to go with a hit.
The Huskies scored the only runs they needed on a 3-run home run by Noah Dehne in the second inning. SCSU added two more runs in the fifth inning.
UMary's bullpen of
Jayden Smith,
Ryan Chamberlain and
Parker Wakelyn to throw 4.0 scoreless innings. The quartet held the Huskies to two hits and two walks while striking our four.
Riley Ahern picked up the win for SCSU after working around five hits and three walks in six innings while striking out nine.
The Marauders return home to host Northern State University on Wednesday, April 26, in an NSIC doubleheader originally scheduled to be played in Aberdeen, SD. Game time is 1:30 pm at Bismarck's Municipal Ballpark.
