GRAND FORKS, ND - Braving an icy trip to Grand Forks, the University of Mary Tennis team remained poised for victory over Bemidji State Saturday. The Marauders triumphed in all but one matchup in a 6-1 win over the Beavers. UMary now has won two matches in a row, extending their overall record to 7-5 and an impressive 6-2 in the NSIC.
Coach Saliendra credited the Marauders consistency in Saturday's win.
Chloe Chong and
Ilona Freitag won their eighth match together this season 6-3 in #1 doubles.
Doaa Farouk Mohamed and
Hala Hossam Awad clicked for a 6-0 win in #2 doubles.
Emily Needham and
Samantha Purpura were defiant in a 7-6 win to complete a doubles sweep for the Marauders.
The Marauders carried this momentum right into singles play rallying off four quick victories.
Hala Hossam Awad was irresistible in #4 singles, taking the match over Laura Burger 6-0, 6-0. After Awad finished,
Ilona Freitag quickly followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #3 singles over Emi Sand.
Emily Needham gave the Marauders their third consecutive win at #5 singles with a nice 6-1, 6-2 display over Bela Nelson.
Doaa Farouk Mohamed shortly secured four straight singles wins in the #2 matchup 6-2, 6-1 over Nico Anestriadi.
Chloe Chong won a gritty match over Bemidji's impressive freshman Blanca Lopez 6-2, 7-5 in #1 singles. Chong was able to retake control of the match after trailing 4-5 in the second set.
Samantha Purpura gave a strong showing in defeat 2-6, 5-7 to Lily Jones.

UMary Tennis will look for a strong finish and weekend sweep in their Sunday morning matchup with the University of Minnesota Crookston. The Marauders and Golden Eagles will square off at 9 am in Grand Forks.
