Mohamed and Awad highlight Marauders efforts against Tritons

ORLANDO, FL - A day after falling to their first NCAA DI opponent on the season, the University of Mary Tennis team battled back and forth throughout Saturday's matchup with Eckerd College. As the match came down to a super tiebreaker set deciding the victor, the Marauders (4-2, 3-0 NSIC) came up just short falling 3-4 to the Tritons (2-4, 0-3). 

The Marauders started the match off strong, showcasing their impressive teamwork once again in doubles play. Chloe Chong and Ilona Freitag worked together for a 6-2 win in #1 doubles, extending their perfect start together to 6-0. Doaa Farouk Mohamed and Hala Hossam Awad outlasted Ericka Chavarria and Kylie Misdorp in a super tiebreaker 7-6 to win #2 doubles for the duo's fifth win together this season. The Marauders forfeited the #3 doubles matchup. 

Chloe Chong traded off the first two sets 6-4 and 3-6 with Kylie Misdorp in #1 singles. For the second straight day, Chong battled tightly in a super tiebreaker but fell to Misdorp 0-1 (2-10). 

Doaa Farouk Mohamed performed strongly in #2 singles defeating Julia Triska 6-3, 6-2 a day after retiring early against Oakland. 

Ilona Freitag fell in #3 singles 3-6, 1-6 to Ericka Chavarria. 

Hala Hossam Awad was dominant in her 6-2, 6-0 #4 singles victory over Raia Jagger. The true freshman from Cairo, Egypt is now 5-1 on the season. 

Emily Needham competed tough in her #5 singles match but fell 3-6, 4-6 to Alexis Kwasnik. 

Samantha Purpura fell 1-6, 0-6 in #6 singles to Lili Reichert.

The UMary Tennis team is looking for a strong finish to their spring break games in a 10:30 matchup with Michigan Technological University (1-2) on Sunday morning.
