MANKATO, MN - The University of Mary Tennis team (5-5, 4-2 NSIC) battled hard but fell in their second straight conference battle to Minnesota State University (8-1, 5-1 NSIC) Saturday in Mankato.
"There were grueling matches in singles," said head coach Vida Saliendra. "Long points and games. I give credit to my athletes for working hard for each point."
The strong Mavericks squad took each of the three doubles matches, 6-3 in #1, 7-5 in #2, and 6-0 in #3 doubles.
Hala Hossam Awad continued her impressive stretch of performances with a 6-2, 6-7, 6-1 victory over Avery Stilwell in the #4 singles matchup. The freshman from Cairo, Egypt is now 9-1 overall in her first season as a Marauder.
Doaa Farouk Mohamed persevered in another stellar showing, defeating Freia Lawrence 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10-4) in #2 singles. The sophomore from Cairo, Egypt improved her overall singles record to 7-2 so far this season.

Chloe Chong 3-6, 5-7 in #1 singles.
Ilona Freitag engaged in a tough battle with Chiara Carnelutti, forcing a super tiebreaker but falling ultimately in the #3 singles match 7-6, 6-7, 0-1.
Emily Needham fell in a close matchup 4-6, 6-7 to McKenna DeMarce in #5 singles.
Samantha Purpura fell 0-6, 0-6 to Hana Minisy in #6 singles.

UMary Tennis will strive to get back into the win column Sunday morning against Southwest Minnesota State (3-11, 2-3 NSIC). The Marauders are currently slated for a 7:30 am matchup with the Mustangs in Marshall, MN.
