MAUSTON, WI – The University of Mary baseball team suffered a pair of painful one-run losses to Concordia-St. Paul. In a Northern Sun doubleheader relocated to Mauston, WI, the Golden Bears edged the Marauders 6-5 in the opener before claiming a 7-6 win over UMary in a record 16-inning contest.
GAME 1 | Concordia-St. Paul 6 University of Mary 5
The University of Mary jumped out to an early 3-0 lead but a 5-run third inning was too much for the Marauders to overcome in a 6-5 loss to Concordia-St. Paul. The Marauders twice closed the gap to a single run before being shut down by the Golden Bears.
Newcomers
Daniel Martin and Joh Walker posted two hits each for the University of Mary as the Marauders collected nine in the 7-inning contest. Concordia-St. Paul rolled up 12 hits in the game.
PIVOT POINT
The Golden Bears struck for five runs on seven hits to take a 5-3 lead, and advantage they never relinquished. Four of the hits came with two outs.
UMary sandwiched single runs in the 4
th and 6
th innings around a lone run by CSP in the 5
th. UMary had opportunities but stranded two runners on base in each of the last three innings of the game.

A game featuring eight straight scoreless innings featured a pair of clutch rallies by the Golden Bears in the final two stanzas of the night. Behind an incredible relief outing by
Halen Knoll and
Mark Schommer, neither the Marauders nor the Golden Bears scored in innings seven through 14.
Entering the game in the fifth inning, Knoll gave up two runs in the sixth – just one earned – before pitching five scoreless frames. He finished his day allowing just two hits, two runs (one earned) and two walks while striking out six.
Mark Schommer followed with two scoreless innings before
Parker Wakelyn tossed a scoreless 14
th inning.
The Golden Bears relief corps was just as potent. After Martin doubled home
Kalem Haney in the fourth inning, the Marauders were held off the scoreboard until a Walker fly out to center field in the 15
th inning to score Martin, snapping 11 scoreless innings for UMary.
PIVOT POINT
For the second straight inning, UMary pushed across a run in the 16
th when Haney doubled home
Ben Prediger for a 6-5 lead. Concordia-St. Paul followed with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The Golden Bears opened with an infield single before a walk and hit batter loaded the bases with one out. Noah Juliar came through with a 2-run single to right to give the Golden Bears a walk off win and a doubleheader sweep.
