FAYETTE, IA – The University of Mary opened Northern Sun conference play by taking two of three games at the University of Upper Iowa with the Marauders and the Peacocks after splitting a doubleheader on day two of their series. UMary captured the lone game on Sunday and the first contest Monday before Upper Iowa held on to win game three.

Another dominant start by
Austin Wagner extended the Marauders win streak to six straight games as the big UMary lefthanded increased his season mark to 3-0. Wagner pitched six scoreless innings to start the contest before Upper Iowa plated a run in the seventh inning. He finished the game with four strikeouts and no walks while limiting the home team to five hits.
The Marauders took advantage of six errors by the Peacocks to score six runs, just three of which were earned. Six different players accounted for the six UMary hits with
Daniel Martin scoring twice and drawing two of the Marauders five walks.
Josh Walker drove in three runs and scored once. His 2-run home run in the fifth was UMary's lone extra base hit of the game.
For the second straight day,
Mark Schommer entered a game with the bases loaded and executed his pitches to earn a save. Entering the game with the Marauders leading 6-1 with three runners aboard and no outs, Schommer gave up a soft single to center to score one run. It was the only one out of the six runners in the two games that he inherited who was allowed to score. Schommer then induced a popup to second before the Marauders closed the win with a 4-6-3 double play.

Daniel Martin. Walker came up next and blasted his 6
th home run of the season, scoring two for a 4-0 UMary lead.

Hopes for a UMary sweep of its first Northern Sun series of the season fell about two feet short. With the tying run on third and the go-ahead run at second,
Noah Hull hit a 2-out sinking soft liner to left field that was caught by a diving Bryce Hall to end a furious UMary rally.
Down 7-0 and 9-2, the Marauders scored the last six runs of the game, including four in the eighth and one in the ninth.
Will Brassil had a big day offensively for UMary. The designated hitter finished 3-for-3 with two walks, a double and a home run. He scored twice and drove in three runs,
Michael Polson added three hits with two RBIs and one run scored.
Kalem Haney also had an impressive day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI.
PIVOT POINT
The Peacocks scored runs in each of the first three innings to build a 7-0 lead. Up 3-0 after two, Upper Iowa took advantage of four walks, an error and a pair of passed balls to score four runs, the final two on a home run by Caden White.
