BISMARCK, ND - The University of Mary Women's Basketball team (13-8, 12-6 NSIC) pulled off another win and weekend sweep in the MAC with a scrappy 48-39 Performance over Bemidji State University (7-15, 4-14 NSIC) Saturday night.
Addison Rozell had another solid night with 14 points to cap off a great weekend. UMary's defense set their season-lows for points allowed (39), shots made (11), and shooting percentage against (19.3%).
The game got off to a slow start offensively for both sides. The Marauders scored their first points 3:32 into the first quarter with
Megan Zander knocking down a pair of free throws. UMary held a 9-6 edge after the first ten minutes.
UMary would hold onto this lead, and create a little comfort by taking a 7-0 run into halftime. Six Marauders chipped into the second-quarter effort for a 27-16 score. The Marauders forced nine Beaver turnovers in the first half and held them to 23.3% shooting.
UMary continued to create problems for Bemidji's offense in the third quarter as the Beavers were 0-12 from the field in the frame. All of the Beavers seven points in the third quarter came from the free-throw line.
Bemidji's Trinity Yoder tried to rally the Beavers back into the contest, but the comeback effort came too late as UMary held on to win 48-39. Though it was the Marauders lowest-scoring game of the season, they persevered down low with 24 points inside the paint, and showcased their depth with 25 points off the bench.
