Marauders score big but can't keep pace with #23 Roadrunners

DENVER – Taking on one of the top teams in the nation, the University of Mary rolled up 16 runs and 21 hits in a double header against #23 Metropolitan State University at Denver. The Marauders cracked three home runs in the first game and went yard once in the second game.  
 
GAME 1 | MSU Denver 16 UMary 10
The Marauders claimed an early lead against one of the nation's top teams but couldn't score enough to hold off the Roadrunners. Derek Shoen hit a 2-run home run to cap a 5-run 4th inning to give UMary a 7-1 lead. The MSU Denver bats came to life in the bottom of the 4th with back-to-back home runs scoring three to climb within 7-4. The Roadrunners completed their comeback in the 6th inning with a 9-run outburst.
 
Austin Wagner kept the Roadrunners in check in the early going, limiting the home team to four runs in five innings. He struck out five in five innings, allowing eight hits but didn't walk a batter.
 
The Marauders knocked out 2021 co-RMAC rookie pitcher of the year Reichle Arcilise . Arcilise had limited opponents to no runs and two hits in 7.2 innings entering the game while striking out 17. The Marauders touched Arcilise for seven hits – including two doubles and two home runs - and seven runs in 3.2 innings.
 
PIVOT POINT
The Roadrunners used six hits and three hit batters plus one Marauders error to score nine times in the 6th inning. Schuler hit a leadoff home run before a sacrifice fly and an error pulled MSU Denver even. A 2-run double down the left field line gave the home team their first lead of the day at 9-7 before finishing the stanza with a 13-7 advantage.

The Marauders have played two teams this season that are nationally ranked in the current poll. Central Oklahoma is #11 and MSU Denver is #23.

The Roadrunners offense continued to shine in the early innings of game two. MSU Denver scored the first nine runs of the second game to cruise to a 10-6 win. The Marauders made a late run, scoring two runs in each of the 5th, 6th  and 7th innings but couldn't overcome the early deficit.
 
PIVOT POINT
The Roadrunners blasted three home runs in the second and third innings to grab a 9-0 lead. Yuran hit a solo shot in the second and Schultz drove in two with a single to generate a 3-0 lead after two. In the third MSUD tacked on six more runs as Williams and Schuler both homered.

The Marauders have home runs in 8-of-10 games with four multi-home run games.
