Jameson, Haney key late game one outburst as Marauders gain split with Rangers

DENVER, CO – Exploding for nine runs over the last two innings of the opener, the University of Mary baseball team earned a 12-5 win in game one of a non-conference doubleheader at Regis University. Kalem Haney and Kyle Jameson keyed the Marauders outburst to ensure a split on the day as a late Ranger rally lifted the home team to an 8-7 victory in the nightcap.

GAME 1 | University of Mary 12 Regis University 5
Kalem Haney and Kyle Jameson both doubled in each of the 6th and 7th innings and combined to drive in six runs in those innings to lead the Marauders victory charge in a game. The Marauders blasted 10 doubles in the game. Jameson, who hit 8th, and Haney, batting in the 9th slot, combined for five hits – all doubles – and seven RBIs while scoring three times.

A trio of Marauders pitchers – starter Jonathan Draheim and relievers Halen Knoll and Mark Schommer combined to hold the Rangers to just one run over the last five innings and just two earned runs for the game.

PIVOT POINT
Trailing 5-3 after five innings, Jameson hit a run-scoring double down the right field line before Haney doubled to left center to score two runs and provide the Marauders a 6-5 lead. UMary tacked on six more runs in the seventh with Jameson doubling in one run and Haney cracking another 2-run 2-bagger.

GAME 2 | Rangers 8 Marauders 7
The Marauders blasted three home runs and six extra base hits but their hopes of completing a sweep of the Rangers came up just short.

UMary jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind a wild pitch and a Regis error in the top of the first. The Rangers came right back with four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-2 lead. After trading runs in the third, the two teams combined to score seven runs the last two innings.

PIVOT POINT
Marauders All-Northern Sun first baseman Derek Shoen bashed a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh to tie the game 5-5. Responding immediately, the Rangers scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-5 lead, the last two runs on a Maxim Fullerton home run.

UMary made a comeback attempt behind back-to-back home runs by Noah Hull and Will Brassil to start the 8th and final inning with Brassil's blast coming in a pinch-hitting appearance. A pitching change for Regis ended UMary's hopes as Logan Deskin retired three straight hitters, including two by strikeout.
