Record-setting offensive explosion earns Marauders Valentine's Day split with Storm

BETHANY, OK -  A record-breaking offensive onslaught earned the University of Mary baseball team a Valentine's Day split on the road at Southern Nazarene University. The Marauders bullied their way to a 26-14 win in the opener as UMary set school records for runs, hits, runs batted in and home runs in a single game.

The Storm rebounded to capture game two 26-10.

GAME 1 | University of Mary 26 Southern Nazarene 14
With the winds averaging 20 miles per hour with gusts over 40, the Marauders took full advantage of the conditions to crush nine home runs, pound out 24 hits and score 26 runs to break program records in all three categories.

All nine hitters in the Marauders lineup had a hit and scored at least two runs. Eight Marauders had multiple hits, eight had multiple RBIs, eight had an extra base hit, seven players homered and six scored three or more runs.

Noah Hull bashed two home runs and finished 4-for-5 on the day with four runs scored and three RBIs. The Marauders designated hitter also slammed a double. Josh Walker matched Hull's home run output and led the team with five RBIs while going 3-for-6 with two runs scored. Derek Shoen also had a four-hit performance that included a double and home run. The All-Northern Sun first baseman drove in three runs and touched the plate three times. Cal James joined Hull and Shoen with producing a double and a round tripper. The All-NSIC 3rd baseman was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, three RBIs and two walks.

PIVOT POINT
The Marauders jumped out to an early lead on a Krece Papierski solo home run and a 3-run Daniel Martin blast leading to a 5-run second inning. A solo home run by Hull and a 2-run shot by Michael Polson stretched the Marauders lead to 8-2 in the top of the third. The Storm rallied with six runs in the third to pull even at 8-8.

UMary then buried Southern Nazarene in the 4th inning, scoring 14 runs in the inning with five home runs accounting for much of the damage. Walker started the avalanche with a solo shot, followed by an RBI double by Kyle Jameson and a 2-run singe by Kalem Haney. After picking up a run on an error, Shoen jacked a 3-run bomb and Walker and Hull each had 2-run home runs to send the Marauders to a 22-8 lead.
