ST. CLOUD, MN - The University of Mary Softball team closed their stay at the Kelly Laas Invitational with a 10-2 loss to St. Cloud State and later a 10-8 win over Bemidji State.
Sariah Perez had a day at the plate with multiple hits and RBIs in Sunday's twin bill and
Devyn Ritz was clutch driving in the tying and winning runs in game two.
GAME ONE
A fast start from the Huskies (2-1) gave them the lead to hold on to win 10-2 over the Marauders (2-5) Sunday morning.
Jasmin Estrada ignited a 5-run first inning with a three-run home run over left field.
Emari Evans and
Hannah Chambers would both limit the damage despite three errors in the field as the Huskies scraped four more runs over the next three innings.
After
Janine Warne led off with a single in the fifth,
Ariana Retuta brought her home two batters later with an RBI double to right field, plating the Marauders first run of the game.
Sariah Perez also found success the other way the very next at-bat, scoring Retuta on an RBI double to the gap in right.
An RBI infield single by Tenley Quesnell in the bottom of the fifth gave the Huskies a 10-2 lead and the win.

GAME TWO
Two big rallies in the fifth and sixth innings and clutch moments from many Marauders were vital in their 10-8 come-from-behind win over Bemidji State (1-2) in the final of four games at the Kelly Laas Invitational in St. Cloud, MN.
Morgan Benedict and Ashley Herold delivered big swings in the second and fifth innings to put the Beavers ahead early 8-0. The Marauders would not bow as a huge comeback effort began in the bottom of the fifth.
Janelle Bergmann got the Marauders on the board with an RBI double to left, and would later score on another RBI double from
Brooke McClure. An RBI single from
Sariah Perez and a sacrifice fly from
Devyn Ritz would cut the Beavers lead in half 8-4 at the end of the fifth.
The UMary bats picked right back up where they left off in the sixth. Freshman
Francesca Villaneda entered the game and delivered a 2-RBI base rip to score Bergmann and De Jonge.
Brooke McClure delivered once again the very next at-bat, bringing home Stubbs to score on an RBI base knock to right.
With two outs and trailing 8-7,
Devyn Ritz delivered perhaps the biggest hit of the day ripping a grounder into left field to bring home the tying and go-ahead runs to give UMary their first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Kaylee Kannegiesser drove in Ritz on an RBI single to left center to make it 10 unanswered runs for the Marauders.
Hannah Chambers was stellar in relief by slowing down the Beavers momentum as the game carried on.
Nicole Eckhardt reentered the game with a runner on first. Eckhardt struck out the first batter, gave up a single, then slammed the door shut leaving two runners stranded. Chambers earned her first win on the season with no runs given up, three hits, and three walks in 1.2 innings pitched. Eckhardt earned her first save on the season.
