MINOT, ND – It was a special night for Mariah McKeever and the University of Mary women's basketball team (5-5, 3-1 Northern Sun) as UMary took down in-state rival Minot State University (3-9, 1-3 NSIC) 75-67.
McKeever cracked 1,000 points in her NCAA collegiate career in the Marauders victory as the senior dropped 20 points on the Beavers. She was 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 shooting from behind the arc. The Ada, MN, native becomes the third UMary player to crack 1,000 career points this season, joining
Lexie Schneider and
Megan Zander.
McKeever scored her first 875 points while playing at MSU Moorhead before transferring to UMary this season.
Schneider scored 17 points on a perfect 9-of-9 shooting effort from the charity stripe.
Ryleigh Wacha grabbed a season-high ten rebounds and scored nine points.
Megan Zander scored 10 points and dropped three assists.
Addison Rozell added eight points, shooting 2-of-3 from three.
Both teams were evenly matched in the first half. Neither team held a lead at the end of the first two quarters, with the score being tied 32-32 going into halftime.
The Marauders came out on fire in the third quarter, outscoring the Beavers 27-16 to take an 11-point advantage going into the fourth. UMary's lead in the fourth quarter was never threatened as the Marauders hit timely shots to hold off MSU and secure a 75-67 victory.
UMary had a perfect night from the free-throw line, going 16-of-16 from the charity stripe. MSU shot just 3-of-9 from the free throw line.
Both teams had a great night shooting the three. The Marauders shot 11-of-23 from behind the arc, while the Beavers shot a scorching 8-of-13 from three.
UMary dominated the glass, outrebounding MSU 34-23. The Marauders grabbed 12 offensive rebounds while limiting the Beavers to just four.
UMary returns home to Bismarck, ND, to welcome St. Cloud State University to the McDowell Activity Center on Tuesday, December 12, at 6:00 pm.
