BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary women's basketball team was unable to stop a fourth quarter charge by St. Cloud State University in a 60-53 Marauders loss to the visiting Huskies.
Lexie Schneider once again shined for the Marauders (5-6, 3-2 Northern Sun) as she scored 23 points and grabbed ten rebounds. This marks Schnider's fifth double-double of the season. The Appleton, WI, native shot 9-of-18 from the field and went 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Schneider is the NSIC leader in scoring and rebounding.
Mariah McKeever scored eight points and dished out three assists.
Bergan Kinnebrew dropped seven points off the bench, while
Moriku Hakim scored six points.
UMary got off to a good start in the first half. The Marauders outscored the Huskies 17-14 in the first quarter and then took a 28-23 lead going into halftime.
UMary extended its lead in the third quarter as the Marauders took a 42-35 lead into the final quarter. SCSU caught fire from the field in the 4
th quarter to outscore UMary 25-11 in the period. The Huskies shot 8-of-13 from the field to give them 25 points, while the Marauders shot 3-of-10 to score just 11 points.
Overall SCSU (6-3, 3-2 NSIC) shot 37% from the field and 2-of-14 from behind the arc. UMary shot 41.5% from the field and went 1-of-13 from three. The Huskies made ten more free throws than the Marauders, going 18-of-21 from the line, while UMary went 8-of-14.
UMary led for over 31 minutes in a game that featured seven lead changes and three ties.
The Marauders lost the rebounding battle 39-30. UMary recorded 13 turnovers, while SCSU turned the ball over 11 times.
UMary travels to Bemidji, MN, to take on Bemidji State University on Thursday, December 14, at 7:30 pm. The Marauders then are back at the McDowell Activity Center to host Dickinson State University on Saturday, December 16, at 4 pm and Valley City State University on Monday, December 18, at 7:30 pm.
