BISMARCK, ND – A dominant first quarter set the tone for the University of Mary women's basketball team as UMary (8-6, 4-2 NSIC) routed Valley City State University 84-45.
Megan Zander led the way with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc.
Lexie Schneider dropped 17 points while also grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out six assists.
Mariah McKeever scored 11 points as she shot 3-of-3 from three while also grabbing six boards.
The Marauders received great production from the bench.
Moriku Hakim had eight points and eight rebounds.
Chloe Pfau had seven points, shooting 3-of-5 from the field.
Cadee Ryckman made two triples to give herself six points.
Bergan Kinnebrew scored six points while also dishing out four assists.
The game was tied at 4-4 early before the Marauders went on a 21-0 run to close out the first quarter. UMary went into halftime with a 36-19 lead.
The Marauders came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Vikings 25-15 in the third quarter. UMary kept their performance strong in the fourth quarter and won 84-45.
UMary shot 51.6 percent from the field while going 10-of-21 from behind the arc. VCSU recorded a 28.8 shooting percentage from the field while going 6-of-21 from behind the arc.
The Marauders went 10-of-16 from the free throw line, while the Vikings shot 5-of-15 from the charity stripe. UMary just edged out the rebounding advantage 42-40 over VSCU.
