BISMARCK, ND – Stepping out of Northern Sun action for the first of two straight games, the University of Mary women's basketball team overwhelmed Dickinson State University 73-45. Ten Marauders appeared in the scoring column in UMary's non-conference win.
Megan Zander paced the Marauders with 16 points and seven rebounds. The All-Northern Sun performer knocked down three treys and was 5-for-6 at the line. The senior also had two assists.
Lexie Schneider continued to roll. The leading scorer and rebounder in the NSIC had 13 points and seven rebounds. The senior forward also filled the box score with two assists, two steals and two blocks.
Bergan Kinnebrew led a potent Marauders bench with nine points, converting 5-of-6 free throw attempts.
Mariah McKeever also chipped in nine points and
Ryleigh Wacha added eight points and six rebounds.
In a run-and-gun opening quarter, UMary grabbed a 20-15 lead while playing ten players and having six Marauders appear in the scoring column.
Megan Zander opened the scoring with a 3-ball and UMary never trailed while building a lead as large as six points.
The Marauders overwhelmed the Blue Hawks in the second quarter 18-3. UMary ran off 13 straight points while closing out the second period on a 15-1 run. Dickinson State didn't make a field goal and finished 0-for-11 from the floor while scoring all three points at the line. The Marauders forced eight turnovers and led 38-18 at intermission.
In the second half the Marauders outscored the Blue Hawks by four points in each of third and fourth quarters.
UMary had a decisive +11 advantage in turnovers, resulting in the Marauders outscoring the Blue Hawks 29-5 in points off turnovers.
Heather Labree led the Blue Hawks with 16 points. Katherine Fox added 12.
The Marauders close out their 2023 schedule with another non-conference game at home on Monday, December 18 against Valley City State University. Tip off on Special Olympics of North Dakota Night between the Marauders and Vikings is slated for 7:30 pm at the McDowell Activity Center.
