ABERDEEN, SD –
Zyon Smith scored a season-high 20 points to help lead the University of Mary men's basketball team (4-2) to an 87-66 victory against Peru State College (6-2) to wrap up the Dacotah Bank Classic.
Smith shot a scorching 4-of-6 from behind the arc and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Gerald Gittens was all over the court for the Marauders, scoring 12 points while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out five assists.
Gunner Swanson had an efficient day from the field, scoring 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting overall.
UMary got good production from its bench, with two Marauders scoring double figures. Freshman guard
Alex Mattes dropped a season-high 14 points, which included hitting two treys and collecting four rebounds. Sophomore forward
Ty Rogers scored 11 points and brought down four rebounds off the bench.
The first half started competitively as UMary held a slight 29-27 lead with just over four minutes to go. The Marauders then went on a 16-0 run to finish the half off, giving UMary a 45-27 going into halftime.
The Marauders held their lead throughout the second half, leading to an 87-66 win over the Bobcats.
UMary shot 49.2 percent from the field while holding PSC to 40 percent. The Marauders continue to do a good job on the glass, outrebounding the Bobcats 43-31. UMary shot 9-of-21 from behind the arc and 14-of-20 from the charity stripe.
Next up, the Marauders return to NSIC action, taking on Minnesota State University Moorhead at Moorhead, MN, on Saturday, December 2, at 3:30 pm.
