Lexie Schneider continued to punish the opposition inside, finishing with a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds in the Marauders Northern Sun opener against visiting Northern State University. The Wolves owned the arc, however, and downed the Marauders 77-64.
Led by Schneider, the Marauders held a 30-16 edge in points in the paint. It wasn't enough to hold off a Wolves squad that finished 12-of-17 on treys. UMary was 4-of-18 behind the arc.
Schneider made her living at the free throw line as the senior finished 12-of-14. She was 5-for-11 from the floor. She also added three assists and three steals.
Megan Zander also had an impressive night. The senior forward scored inside and out, hitting 3-of-4 on 3s and scoring 15 points. She also added five rebounds and two steals.
Mariah McKeever added nine points and freshman
Bergan Kinnebrew came off the bench to score eight points for UMary (2-5 overall, 0-1 NSIC).
Alayna Benike was 5-of-6 on treys on her way to 20 points for Northern State (4-1, 1-0). Decontee Smith knocked down all three trey attempts and scored 14 points off the bench. Madelyn Bragg had a double double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
After a hectic early season, the Marauder next return to action December 2 at MSU Moorhead. Tipoff is 5:30 pm.
