McKeever keys fast start as visiting Marauders edge Dragons 68-63

MOORHEAD, MN - An impressive first-half performance saw the visiting University of Mary (3-5, 1-1 Northern Sun) women's basketball team take down Minnesota State University Moorhead (0-7, 0-2 NSIC) 68-63 for the Marauders first conference win of the season.

Mariah McKeever returned to MSUM in spectacular fashion, dropping 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and 6-of-8 shooting from behind the arc. The Ada, Minn, native spent four years with the Dragons before transferring to the Marauders.

Lexie Schneider recorded a double-double after scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Schneider shot 6-of-11 from the field and dropped four assists. It was her 3rd double double of the season.
Addison Rozell dropped a season-high 11 points and blocked four shots.

UMary got off to a dominant start in the first half, outscoring MSUM 48-18. McKeever scored 22 of her 24 points in the first two quarters.

The Marauders struggled in the third quarter, allowing the Dragons to cut the lead to 16. MSUM continued to come on strong in the final quarter but the Marauders were able to hit their free throws at the end and secured a UMary win.

The Marauders had a great night shooting the three, going 10-of-20 from behind the arc. UMary shot 43% from the field while holding MSUM to just 29% shooting.

The Marauders went 8-of-14 from the free throw line while MSUM shot 20-of-30 from the charity stripe. UMary got outrebounded 45-40 by MSUM. The Marauders struggled with turnovers - committing 22 - but did manage to turn the Dragons over 17 times and hold an 18-12 in points off turnovers.

UMary returns home to Bismarck, ND, to host the University of Minnesota Crookston on Thursday, December 7, at 7:30 pm in the McDowell Activity Center.
