Schneider continues strong start as Marauders fall to Riverhawks

TAHLEQUAH, OK – Another impressive performance by Lexie Schneider wasn't enough for the University of Mary women's basketball team in a 74-66 loss at Northeastern State University in the final game of the Central Region Classic.

Schneider led all players with 26 points, nine rebounds and four assists. After missing last season due to injury, the All-Northern Sun post player has returned with a vengeance. She has led the Marauders in scoring in all five games and scored at least 20 points four times.

After taking an 8-3 lead, an early shooting slump by the Marauders allowed the Riverhawks to slowly take control. With just under nine minutes to play in the game, NSU had its largest lead of the night at 10 points.

Refusing to fade, Megan Zander splashed a 3 to cap a 15-4 UMary run for a 61-60 Marauders lead with over three minutes to play. The Riverhawks immediately responded with five straight points. A Mariah McKeever trey pulled UMary within 65-64 with 1:26 on the clock but a trey and four straight free throws by the home team dashed the Marauders hope for a weekend sweep.

Zander finished the night with 13 points and five rebounds.

Tor'e Alford led the Riverhawks with 18 points and Halie Jomes added 14.

Next up for the Marauders (2-3 overall) is their home opener against Black Hills State University on Tuesday, November 14. Game time is 6 pm at the McDowell Activity Center.
