MANDAN, ND – #3 University of Mary overwhelmed visiting Waldorf University 7-2 behind a momentous opening period and a hat trick by
Seth Cushing. The Marauders fired 70 shots at the Warriors goal as UMary earned another Midwest College Hockey victory.
In the span of just over seven minutes the Marauders rifled home four goals in the first period. Adrew Huber started the scoring run at 11:15.
Cushing tallied twice in the space of eight seconds, first scoring at 15:10 before knocking home his second at 15:18.
Isaiah Thomas had the helper on both.
Lukas Robinson closed the first period cavalcade of goals at 18:36.
Waldorf cut the UMary lead in half with two goals in the first 3:45 of the second period. Cushing completed his hat trick at 5:50 before
Garrett Freeman found the net 36 seconds before the second intermission to push the Marauders lead to 6-2.
Jaren Hugelen scored on a power play goal in the third period.
The Marauders held a 70-16 edge in shots. Gage Reimer finished the night with 63 saves for Waldorf.
Conan Hayton finished with six saves after facing just eight shots over the first two periods.
Cameron Milewski made his Marauders debut in net and turned aside all eight shots he faced in the final period.
Cushing finished with three goals and an assist. Freeman and Huber both had a goal and two assists. Thomas racked up three assists. Overall ten Marauders had at least one point in the game.
The Marauders are 7-3-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOW-SOL) overall and 4-0-0-0-1 in MCH play. The Warriors are 2-14-0-0-2 overall and 2-7 in MCH action.
The Marauders wrap up the 2-game weekend set with the Warriors on Saturday, 5 pm. The annual Military Appreciation Game honors United States military veterans and those currently serving.
