#4 Marauders edged 4-2 in Highway 83 matchup with #1 Beavers

MANDAN, ND – The 4th ranked University of Mary was able to bounce back from one 2-goal deficit but couldn't find a way to rebound a second time in a 4-2 loss to visiting Minot State University, ranked #1 in the nation.

The Highway 83 meeting between two of the top-ranked teams in American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1 featured a trio of goals in each of the first two periods in the Marauders third straight game against a team ranked in the top three of the nation. UMary earned a split at the University of Central Oklahoma last weekend. The Bronchos were #3 in ACHA MD1 when they played the Marauders and moved up to #2 in the poll released earlier today.

The Beavers found the scoreboard first with a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of play, the second on a power play opportunity by Troy Hamilton at the 9:57 mark.

The Marauders started their comeback with a goal by Isaiah Thomas with only 40 seconds on the clock before the first intermission, taking advantage of assists by Seth Cushing and Johnny Witzke.

Cushing pulled the Marauders even just 5:40 into the second period. Tanner Eskro won the faceoff in the Beavers zone and drew the puck back to Cushing for a quick one-timer. The goal was the fifth of the season for Cushing, who leads UMary in points.

Minot State fired off another two goal burst midway through the period. Walker Jerome broke the tie at 10:29 before a Joey Moffatt power play goal at 13:42 sealed the win for the Beavers as neither team found the net in the third period.

Kyle Hayden had a busy night in net for the Marauders. The All-American faced 43 shots on the night and stopped 39. Jake Anthony had 21 saves for the Beavers.

UMary finished 0-for-2 on the power play while Minot State was an efficient 2-for-3.

The Marauders take this weekend off before hosting Waldorf in Midwest College Hockey action in November 10-11.
