Gruber leads Marauders efforts against Warriors

WINONA, MN – Ally Gruber posted double digit kills for the second time this week as she paced the University of Mary volleyball efforts in the weekend finale at Winona State University. Facing a fourth straight team receiving recognition in the national poll, the visiting Marauders dropped a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-9) Northern Sun decision to the Warriors.

In the last four games the Marauders have played #8 Southwest Minnesota State, a Northern State team receiving votes, #2 Concordia-St. Paul, and a Warriors team also earning top 25 votes.

Gruber finished with 11 kills for the Marauders (4-13, 0-9 NSIC) and hit a team-high .182. The senior outside hitter also added seven digs and assisted on a block to earn a team-leading 11.5 points. In the last five games Gruber has also had 10 kills against Minnesota State and 13 against Northern State.

Nehkyah Ellis added six kills and eight digs. Maddie Cooper chipped in three aces and five kills. Kaia Sueker had 14 digs.

Sidney Paulson led the Warriors (13-4, 6-3 NSIC) with 13 kills. Gianna Vollrath added 12 and hit .611 for the match.

After a setback in the first set, the Marauders rebounded in the middle stanza to build a 15-11 lead on a Reyna Isenbart kill. The Warriors rallied to even the game and then pull away late to claim a 2-0 lead.

The Marauders remain on the road, visiting Minot State University for a 7 pm match on Tuesday, October 10. UMary then will play a pair of matches in Aberdeen, SD, on October 13-14, first a non-conference meeting with Northern State before playing MSU Moorhead in a neutral site NSIC contest.
