The University of Mary women's soccer team continues their playoff push on the road as the Marauders prepare for their final full weekend of regular season action. UMary first plays at the University of Sioux Falls on Friday, October 27, at 6 pm. The Marauders then visit Wayne State College in Wayne, NE, for a 12 noon contest against the Wildcats on Sunday, October 29. Â

The Marauders are 6-6-3 overall and 5-4-2 for 17 points in the Northern Sun and are tied for 7th place with Wayne State and Concordia-St. Paul… The Cougars are 3-9-2 and 3-6-2 (11 points, 11th place)… The Wildcats are 7-6-2 and 5-4-2 (17 points, 7th place).

The Marauders swept the weekend to extend their win streak to four games and continue moving up the NSIC standings…
Ava Vizenor scored on a penalty kick with three minutes left in the game before
Mo Malone hammered home a direct free kick from 25 yards out with 62 seconds remaining to stun visiting Concordia-St. Paul 2-1…
Olivia Gardner scored both Marauders goals in a 2-0 win over visiting Winona State.

MOMENTUM
The Marauders entered their four-game home stand 13
th in the NSIC standings. Four wins later the Marauders are in a 3-way tie for 7
th place. With three games remaining – all on the road – UMary has a chance to keep climbing. The top eight qualify for the NSIC tournament and the top four host in the first round. UMary is tied for 7
th with Concordia-St. Paul (Marauders defeated Golden Bears 2-1) and Wayne State, who the Marauders play Sunday. UMary is two points back of 6
th (Minnesota Duluth 20 points and 2 games remaining) and three points from 4
th place (Augustana and Northern State 20 points each). UMary lost 2-1 to Augie and plays at Northern State in the regular season finale. Wins are worth three points and ties are 1 point.

MALONE NAMED NSIC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
A big weekend in all facets of the game earned University of Mary co-captain
Mo Malone Northern Sun Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors as she led the Marauders to a weekend sweep. Malone had a game-winning goal against Concordia-St. Paul and assisted on the game-winner against Winona State University. The junior defender capped a stunning comeback in the Marauders 2-1 win over Concordia-St. Paul as UMary was held scoreless until the 88th minute. Malone drilled a 25 yard direct free kick just inside the left post with 62 seconds on the clock to win the game. The native of Placentia, CA, then delivered a helper on the Marauders first goal of the game in a 2-0 win over Winona State.

Malone also played a big role in UMary shutting down the opponent's attack. The Marauders limited the Golden Bears to four shots (two on frame) and eight for the Warriors (2 on frame).

This is the first time the 2022 All-NSIC 2nd team performer has earned weekly honors from the Northern Sun. This is also the first time the Marauders have had a player earn weekly honors this season.

For the season Malone has two goals and leads the team with five assists and nine points. She leads the NSIC in assists/game (.33), is eighth in game-winning goals (2) and 13th in points.

The Marauders defense has put the hurt on their opponents the last four games, allowing a total of two goals, 22 shots and 10 shots on frame.

The Marauders offense has found their footing, scoring two goals in each of the four home games during the current winning streak.
Olivia Gardner owns three of the goals, including her brace against Winona State.
Mo Malone contributed one goal and two assists.

Mo Malone has played a key role in the Marauders attack this season. The all-conference performer bent home a corner kick in a 1-0 UMary win over visiting MSU Moorhead in non-conference action and scored the game-winner on a direct free kick with 62 seconds left in the 2-1 stunning victory over Concordia-St. Paul. She has also posted a team-leading five assists, with all coming in the last seven games. The defensive midfielder has also played a key role in the Marauders posting six shutouts and allowing just a goal a game… Malone has two goals and five assists for nine points, second on the team. She leads the NSIC in assists/game (.33), is eighth in game-winning goals (2) and 13th in points.

GO GO GARDNER
Olivia Gardner leads the Marauders in creating scoring opportunities. The Marauders leader in goals with four, she paces the squad in shots attempted (40) and on frame (18). She has been hard for defenders to keep pace with since the start of NSIC play, launching eight shots in a draw with MSU Moorhead and seven in a win over SMSU. Snakebit, the sophomore hit the frame at least five times in a 6-game stretch. Gardner is 4th in the NSIC at 2.67 shots/game.

Molly Fischer has posted six clean sheets this season to rank 4th in the NSIC in shutouts/game (.400).

The Marauders have qualified for postseason play five straight seasons and are projected to make it six. UMary is picked to finish 5th in the 2023 Northern Sun preseason poll. Last season the Marauders tied for sixth in the NSIC, forging a mark of 10-5-4 overall and 7-4-4 in conference action.Â
