MANDAN, ND – Using the same formula for a second straight night but with a little twist, #20 University of Mary skated past Midland University 3-0 to complete a weekend sweep of the Warriors in Midwest College Hockey action.
Michael Heitkamp had both a goal and an assist on a night three different Marauders found the net.
In a 3-2 win over the Warriors on Friday, the Marauders scored the first three goals of the game before Midland found the net twice late in the contest. Tonight UMary scored the first three goals again. This time, though, UMary kept Midland off the scoreboard.
And once again
Cyril Nagurski scored the opening goal in the first period with Heitkamp providing a helper. Nagurski's fifth goal of the season, coming with 1:59 left before the first intermission, sent the Marauders into the locker rooms with a 1-0 lead.
UMary added a pair of goals in the second period.
Jaren Hugelen lit the lamp first at 5:59 before Heitkamp tacked on a goal at 15:48 to seal the game.
The rest of the night belonged to Marauders goaltender
Kyle Hayden. The All-American picked up his first shutout of the season and UMary's second behind the power of 22 saves.
Liam Teraposky made 33 saves for the Warriors.
The win was the fourth straight for the Marauders and the second straight weekend sweep at home. UMary improves to 5-1-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOW-SOL) while Midland falls to 3-5.
UMary next plays at the University of Central Oklahoma on October 27-28.
