BISMARCK, ND - For the sixth straight time in as many years of the Battle for the Barrel, the #14 University of Mary Wrestling team (10-1, 3-0 NSIC) retains hold of the traveling trophy. The Marauders were defiant on the road, winning nine of the ten official bouts in a 41-4 routing of the rival Minot State University (6-6, 1-3 NSIC). Sunday's dual marks the Marauders largest margin of victory in head-to-head history over the Beavers.
Wyatt Lidberg set the tone early in the first bout of the afternoon at 184 pounds. Lidberg quickly erased the momentum of an early Minot takedown and took over with a ferocious offensive display and a pinfall victory 5:59 into the match.
Matthew Kaylor followed with another offensive clinic, winning 13-3 to give UMary a 10-0 lead with the major decision.
The heavyweight matchup was a battle of strength and will between
Luke Tweeton and #9 Jake Swirple. An escape point for each wrestler sent the match to double-overtime where Tweeton overcame Swirple with a two-second riding time difference. Tweeton claimed a big tiebreaker victory and NDPF Dude of the Dual honors.
The Beavers answered with their lone victory of the dual as Oscar Nellis looked impressive in a 12-4 major decision over
Chase Milligan.
In a great display of competitive wrestling, it would be #3
Reece Barnhardt edging James Davis 9-7 at 133 pounds.
Laken Boese would accelerate the Marauders momentum with a pinfall victory 4:37 into the 141 bout.
Leo Mushinsky looked solid in a 12-3 major decision at 149 pounds. The win served as the dagger in the team score, which UMary led 26-4 at this point.
Anthony Velazquez earned the Marauders six more team points with a forfeit victory.
Riley Noble took a 7-4 decision over Brendan Barnes at 165.
#2
Max Bruss bookended the dual just how Lidberg started it, with a dominant pinfall 2:18 into the 174 match.
